DC/DC buck converter delivers 6A continuous current at compact footprint

The highly integrated TPSM82480 from TI maintains the required 6 A output current over the entire temperature range without additional cooling air. This is achieved by a two-phase control topology that divides the load between phases and ensures high efficiency and balanced operation. Other functions include an adjustable soft start, Voltage Select (VSEL) to support multiple processor levels and an OK display for performance. Two input/output capacitors and two resistors form a complete solution with a footprint of 80 mm2 and a height of only 1.5 mm. A temperature OK output causes the system to reduce power before overheating occurs.
